Town of Culture Street Fest creating a buzz

Date Released - 30/06/2022

There’s a buzz in the air about this month’s Stalybridge Town of Culture Street Fest which has a ‘Bee Green’ theme.

As well as the usual fantastic array of food and drink stalls, the event in Armentieres Square 5-9pm on Friday 8 July will offer opportunities to plant your own herbs and other edibles with a free Seed to Feed takeaway.

Visitors can also get involved in Operation Farm’s Lost Trees project to rediscover and map fruit trees across Stalybridge, while also identifying surplus fruit that isn’t currently picked which could be collected and redistributed throughout the community.

There will be artist-led craft activities and – excitingly – opportunities to tour the Royal Exchanges ‘Den’ pop up theatre, which is making a return to Stalybridge Civic Hall. In 2019 the Den was built for the first time in the civic hall to host the first Local Exchange Festival. Tours last for approx. 20 minutes and will run at 5.30pm, 6.15pm, 7pm and 7.45pm.

Tameside Council Assistant Executive Member for Culture, Heritage and Digital Inclusivity Cllr Sangita Patel said: “This month’s Stalybridge Street Fest ties in with many of the themes of our Town of Culture bid, encouraging people to slow down, cherish their local environment and get involved in growing their own food.

“There will be free activities for all ages, as well as a wonderful array of food and drink stalls. I’m also looking forward to seeing the return of the Den pop up theatre to the civic hall and taking a tour. It promises to be a wonderful summer’s evening out for all.”
